The BTF is a joint initiative between Major League Baseball (MLB) and the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA.) It awards grants to organizations involved in the operation of youth baseball and softball programs and facilities.  Its goal is to promote the growth of youth participation in baseball and softball.

Field renovations can sometimes lead to wasted dollars and poor conditions.  Most often this happens when athletic field experts are not consulted.  “To address the need for quality, maintainable playing fields and realistic, manageable construction and renovation projects, BTF is developing a list of "preferred providers" ...as a resource for all organizations planning field-related projects.”
